The simple answer is that any breeding could result in undesirable
characteristics showing up. The chances of this happening increase with
the degree of inbreeding. One generation of inbreeding almost never
results in problems, but unfortunately, if you have bought from a pet
shop you will not know how inbred these gerbils were before you got
them.
