Does anyone remember when I posted, asking opinions about taking a pair of
gerbils into my Biology class? Well, I ended up bringing Alyssa and
Ashwin, and their older triplets, as well as 6 2 day olds. This was approx.
two weeks ago that the finally went in to stay. Well, today I walked into
Biology and Mrs. Wiltgen says, "Tasha, go look at your gerbils, I think
there's something wrong with the white one." I went back, expecting the
little runty to have a bald back (which she was in the process of out
growing) or some other minor thing, as every time ANYTHING happens my class
goes bonkers. Well, the lil white one was walking round the cage in
circles. Her head was tilted to one side and she was very cold. Isn't that
either a broken spine or brain damage from the gerbil being dropped? Well,
I tried to stay calm because I didn't want to (a) upset anyone or (b) make
my teacher think I was crazy. I talked to her after class and Mrs. Wiltgen
said that she thought that the runt had probably been dropped. Ohhhh,
great. Gosh, didn't ANYONE listen to me when I gave my "how to handle
gerbils" speech?? Did no one listen to me say KEEP THE BABIES CLOSE TO THE
TABLE?? I've very disappointed in my class...I'm not sure which class it
happened in, but it happened sometime today. At any rate, they are coming
home with me tomorrow. I don't care if it's helping my class learn about
the wonders of life, because they've turned it into a lesson about death.
:(
Thanks for letting me rant, really wish I didn't have to. :(
