Hi list-
Well, I was having a particularly difficult time administering medicine
and food to Hannah today. She was squirming like you wouldn't believe. In
her frustration to free herself from the washcloth I was wrapping her in,
she must have "huffed" or "snuffed" air out through her nose, which
propelled a white piece of something out a little way. I pulled it out and
it looked to me to be a very small piece of paper, or something like that.
She has had no nasal discharge at all, and it wasn't wet or gooey which
makes me think it was a foreign body of some sort. Anyway, I removed it and
her clicking became barely audible- I put her back with her family and she
was running about, pouncing on other babies and ate a flake of oatmeal on
her own. Has anyone seen this before?
When the pups were still blind and hairless, I would often find one with
it's nostrils blocked or covered by nest tissue. I checked them regularly
and removed the paper, but I'm wondering if maybe a piece didn't get inside
and cause an obstruction that made it difficult to breathe. I'm going to
continue the antibiotic and feeding supplements to be safe, but she does
seem better, and definitely more comfortable.
Please let me know of any thoughts you might have,
Jill
P.S. they are housed on carefresh, with plain paper/cardboard to chew and
tissue for nesting.
