I remember reading that Julian wrote that death usually occurs around 3
years, or shortly before. This fits with my experience- I have lost 2 at 2
1/2 years old, 1 at almost 3years, and another at exactly 3 years. I have
another 3 year old who is still ticking. I don't know how accurate it is,
but I've heard the analogy made that a 3 year old gerbil is comparable to
about a  75 year old person.
