We've renamed the runabout balls "Battle Balls" as our gerbs would
occasionally run into each other when they were in the balls at the same
time - reminded us of the balls that people ran around in in a show
called "Gladiators" several years ago, and the thunderdome from Mad Max.
Our gerbil "Peppi" was attempting to chew a tube I'd placed vertically
in her enclosure last night (as a challenge to her) and ended up lying
on her back with her white tummy facing up chewing on it. It was quite
adorable! We enjoy moving things around to create a challenge and
stimulate her...
We got Peppi (munchkin she is also called) from Petsmart. I was quite
surprised to find gerbils at the one near me, not to mention gerbils
that were healthy, inquisitive and well-maintained! After observing
them for quite some time we decided on a particularly active one (the
bane of her sleeping sisters I might add!), who has proven to be quite
the fearless little gerbil.
I was a bit more careful this time, after the last gerbil I had (a few
years ago) had some sort of disorder where he'd be drinking or chewing
on cardboard and would suddenly freeze up for several minutes with his
eyes half closed and body trembling. We were very patient, but he would
never let any of us touch him...
Anyways, hope all of you and your gerbils are enjoying the new year!
