toilet tissue

Hello gerbil people,

Some toilet and paper towel rolls have remains of glue on them.  I want to
know if this is unsafe...I cut the gluey parts off, but sometimes they end up
with very little roll left.  Also, are cereal boxes safe, since they have
colors?  I'm not sure if they would ingest the dye or glue from these things.
 This has severely limited my supply of cardboard.  Am I being overly
cautious?
