Since we've been discussing the availability of gerbils in stores (mine
are from a store) I just thought I'd jump in. I haven't checked my
local pet shop recently (haven't even bought any new fish lately) but
when I first bought my gerbils this summer the girl that worked there
said most people are reluctant to buy gerbils because of their tails. I
wonder if that holds true for mice and rats too? I would think those
two would have even greater prejudices against them. Just out of
curiosity, how are mice and rats as pets? I've only ever had gerbils
and hamsters. I've heard that gerbils are the friendliest of all the
rodents, which is more important to me than appearance. Personally, I
think those furry tails are cute, but I can see how they would make some
people a little squeamish. I notice whenever I walk up to the small
animal tanks at the pet store that the gerbils are almost always the
only ones to stop whatever they're doing and look at me. They're just
awesome critters. Hope everyone doesn't mind my rambling. :-)
