Well, I have figured out that it does have to do with the mating.  Just now, he was mating her, and threw her off, and blood spattered on the wall of the cage.  I'm a little concerned.  Could that be a prostrate problem?  Something worse?  He's clearly fertile, he had two pups a few weeks ago with another mate.  Maybe  I should take him to the vet. . .
