I would suggest switching to plain paper instead of using cedar if there
are no other packaged beddings available. Cedar is very unsafe for these
small animals, and the red nose your gerbil has may be the beginning of a
problem. Cedar causes a variety of respiratory ailments and has also been
linked to the development of cancerous growths, I believe primarily in the
liver.
