Hi!
I had a bad case of Tyzzers before Christmas and I lost two Nursing mothers
(whose pups also died because they were less than 2 weeks old), some 5 week
old pups and some older males and females.I lost about 30 Gerbils in all,
including the newborn pups.
Now I had another nursing mother who started getting the same symptoms, she
was very dehydrated and had diarreah, she was also freezing cold.Every single
one of my Gerbils and Hamsters were beirng treated with Tetracycline and
somehow this female pulled through.I never had it confirmed that she *was*
suffering from Tyzzers but after watching my others die from it I am pretty
sure she had it in it's early stages.Unfortunately her pups did not make it
as she was too weak to feed them properly but she has raised two healthy
litters since then:)
I think if it is caught at an early stage then infected Gerbils can surviive
it.The only problem is if you have never seen Tyzzers in an animal before you
may not notice the deterioration until it is in it's late stages and it may
be too late then.
