Stop using the wheel with interspaces!!!
Gerbils can broke tails and bones on them - as you did see that.
My sister's gerbil once jumped from the table and he had like an open broken
leg. We washed the leg with antibiotic tea (sage-tea) and then put her in
cleaned cage back to his partner. He was ok in a week. Like his leg was not
broken...
