What brand of paper-based cat litter did you use? I have kept gerbils with numerous allergies on Yesterday's news on my vet's recommendation and have had no such problems. I've also used it for my cavies and rabbits (both species can be notorious litter-eaters!) I'm not using it currently because it's just too heavy to either carry home or have shipped. Yesterday's News is digestible if eaten and even flushable for disposal, and also has no scent. I know there are a couple other brands out there though that I think are lower quality, though.
