They should be fine on corn cob but I would also give them tissue, napkins,
clean cardboard as mentioned before. This way they can make a nice soft
comfy nest.

I currently have 12 tanks of gerbils. All my tanks are 10 gallon tanks. I
have a total of 36 gerbils. About half of them make up my breeding pairs,
most of which are to old to breed now and are kept as pets. Only one of the
breeding pairs is young and are producing pups on a regular basis. I have
two other pairs that only have litters once every few months now, it's
possible that they may not even produce any more. Out of these 36 gerbils,
13 of them are pups.

I keep the tanks simple. They all have chew blocks in them. They all get
shredded napkins for nesting material. The active breeding pairs do not get
'houses' for fear that the houses may get knocked over onto a pup. All the
non-breeders do have houses. They all get plenty of cardboard. None of my
cages have wheels in them and my gerbils seem to be doing fine. It is very
rare that I ever have any injured gerbils. I have been raising gerbils since
Nov. 1998 and have raised close to 200 of them, this includes all the
gerbils that I have taken in that people didn't want anymore. I have always
accepted unwanted gerbils. The most I ever had at one time were about 60
gerbils which was getting to be a bit much. I am comfortable with the 15
adults I have plus the pups. This seems to be a comfortable amount for me to
handle. My two kids help to take care of them along with a neighbor who
adores the gerbils.

Fortunately I have an extra room in my house that all the critters are kept
in. Most of the time when I have company over, they don't even realize I
have pets, but of course I can't help but tell people all about them!

Besides my gerbils I also have two guinea pigs and two spiny mice. I like to
let the pigs out to run around the critter room while I'm in there working.
The mice are fun to watch. They can be very entertaining like the gerbils. I
don't handle the mice much though because they are very fast and can run up
my arm quicker than I realize it. They are not mean nor are they scared,
they are just too fast for me!
