Start with a day where you can have them within arm's reach
for 8-12 hours, and your EASY TO GET ON gloves (you don't
have to fumble to get them on); a separate container to pop
one into...and the cage they were just in...not cleaned or anything.
Take the divider out. Keep an eye on them. They may do fine
for a few hours, then turn. You have to be there to separate them...
I find this easiest by slipping the gloves on, grabbing one, and
popping them into the holding container.
Put the divider back then, and put the one in the container
into the other side. Give split cage another week.
The only thing I do when I remove the split cage divider, is
to put food in the center of the cage. Not too tight of a pile,
but so that there is something else interesting other than
the other gerbil....
