Death Announcement and question :(

My young pup with the broken leg died yesterday :(.  He was perfectly fine
two days ago.  He was eating ok, drinking ok, playing a lot, doing everything
a normal pup would do, but he died.  He might have got an infection, when he
broke it, he did break the skin. Could it have been possible that he got an
infection?
