I can tell you right now, the trick to calico in cats is that it is an
x-linked trait, so first we would have to find a color on the x
chromosome in gerbils, and then a dominant color over it on the same
gene, and it would have to be masked in 50% of the coat's cells. It's a
long and exhausting process to get it in a cat, so it will be a long
time before we see it in a gerbil I assume
