Hello list
I have a question that has really been bothering me lately. A few months ago I had my little black gerbil (he has white going down his chin), Jin, and he is a really good boy, but he seems to be one of those rather "hyper" gerbils I have read about. I am seeing, although I am new to the gerbil world, that there definitely are different personalities in each. I love Jin very much, but he just can't sit still for a second ever and I take him out to play every day to see if I can't calm him down a bit and get him to "chill out". To watch him in his cage, he appears to also be somewhat of a "clown". Anyway, my question is is that everything I have read about gerbils on the internet says that gerbils can only squeak? I mean as far as noises go, except for their thumping, but that isn't a voice type sound. Jin makes the strangest noise that I've never heard any of my gerbils make before or even read about -- it is kind of a "cheep, cheep, cheep!" sound he makes and I do!
n't even know why he makes it or if he is nervous or scared or what -- I don't abuse the little guy -- I am really gentle with him and if he starts to squeak too much and complain about me holding him or something, then I usually let him go back to his cage where he is comfortable with his cage-mate, Gerbie. He has made this sound 2 times now, and the 2nd time my husband heard it. Jin was out and running free on our sofa and he ran over and ran on my husband's shoulder and said "cheep! cheep! cheep!" Now I think I am going crazy if nobody can tell me that it is possible for a gerbil to make this unusual sound besides their normal little "squeak". I need to find out why and what is the deal that Jin is making this sound and I need to know if he maybe needs some gerbil psychotherapy or something? (just kidding).
Thank you in advance for ANY input.
