We had a gerbil like this, named Chompi <g>.
He would actually draw blood if you put your hand inside the
tank, but once outside, he never bit.
We took him out with gloves, and after several weeks he
stopped the biting.
Now, at almost 2 years of age, he is one of our sweetest
males, and has never bitten again.
