HI,
Fred is 5 months old. I bought him from a breeder at ten weeks old. Then I
put him in a split cage with, what I found out very soon, a very agressif
male, George (17 weeks). Every day he spent hours gnawing the mesh of the
divder. Every time Fred came to close to the divider, he attacked it. This
lasted 2,5 months. Then I finally put them together and George immediatly
attacked Fred. I separated them, and now they are in diferent cages.
I would like to pair up Fred, with a five week old male. My parents say I
can't buy another gerbil, 'cause we already have 6. So maybe, if I can proof
that Fred WILL accept the five week old, I might buy one.
So here comes the question: Is it possible that Fred is embittered by this
split cage, and will make problems accepting a new partner?
During the split cage, and the attacks from George, Fred was afraid to come
near the divider, but the last one or two weeks, I found them sometimes with
the noses together. George would go bizerk then, cause he couldn't finish
Fred off.
Have you had any difficulty with paring up the non-agressif gerbil of a
failed split cage?
Thanks for ANY response!
Sarah
