I don't think there is any more I can do wrong with these gerbils. I wish I
had had a clue that babies were coming so I wuold be better educated. any
way, I moved speedy's kids over to crystal and moved speedy and snowflake to
the aquarium and that went fine. But I guess I didn't attach the nest firmly
enough and when Crystal was in nuring the 7 kids, the nest fell 8 inches. no
one was hurt, but crystal decided tha she wasn't keeping the kids in there
any more and ran around in a panic trying to find a new place for them and
she had them moved to a very bad spot next to a 12 inch drop. So I moved the
whole troup into the aquarium nest and all. she moved them out of that nest
into a dish in the corner of the cage and seems to have a much easier time
nursing. She is very tuned into thier squeaks so though she is spending a
lot of time checking out the aquarium, she has been nursing. She seems to
realize that one of speedy's kids is small and weak and kicks him to the top
of the pile before sitting on them to nurse. Those two are looking better
already. So now everyone is where they should ahve been to start with and
hopefully the breeding and raising pups will be better from here on out.
thank you for bearing with me and my ignorance. By the way, What is Molting
in gerbils? I think of it as losing feathers in birds?
