Crystal is doing very well with all seven of the kids. i have given the
weakest one of speedy's kids some replacement milk as he seemed too weak to
fight for a nursing spot. He is doing much better now and Crystal seems to
be spending alot more time just laying in the nest so that everyone is
getting a chance to nurse though he does have to wait until the bigger ones
are finished and probably gets less milk. i will continue to offer him the
milk a couple times a day after she is done nursing. poor Felix tries to
lay down with them too, but when they start to nip his belly he runs away.
He is also getting a little nippy when i go to take the runt out and give
him milk. He really doesn't like me messing with the kids. he goes over and
does a major clean up on the runt when I put him back probably getting the
excess milk off. The problem is that speedy just isn't settling down in her
own aquarium. she gets very agitated when the babies are chirping. When
they are quiet she is pretty peaceful. I was wondering if she is still
intuned to the sound of her pups and if thier chirping is making her try to
find them but they are no longer there. Will she eventually settle or will
this go on until her next litter is due? I assume that since she is no
longer nursing her babies that she will let herself get pregnant pretty
quickly and we can expect her next litter in about three to four weeks.
