Ashly had her pups this morning.  There are five.  All with dark pigment over the eyes.  This is her first litter.  She might be a nervous mom.  She is frantically digging in the corners.  When she digs in the corner where the pups are and kicks them up, scattering them, Black gathers them up and sits with them.  I hope she settles down.
Surely is so casual now, that I can either pet her pups in the nest or pick them up and hold one in my hands without her being alarmed.  There are a few that crawl all over the place even with their eyes not opened yet.  I can barely see the whiskers they are so fine.  Their hair is coming in and it is shiny.
Of course I wash my hands with soap and water before and after handling the gerbils and in between visiting each family/cage.
