Hi all - well what a surprise I had this morning, Cookie my 5 week old "female" and Sooty her "Mother" have been living in a cage on their own for about 3 weeks.  I was going to take them to our local pet store to see if i could match them up with a couple of males today.  When I checked on them this morning, 1 tiny little pup!!!I couldn't of been more surprised if I'd found 10!!  So I guess Cookie is a male after all!
I don't hold out much hop efor this 1 small pup, I don't understand why my gerbils have been having such tiny litters.  Sooty and her sibling Oreo have had 3 litters between them (not including this 1 pup) - 2 then 3 then 4, Cookie is the survivor of the last litter.  I'm going to change my bedding from now of though, see if this is the cause of the litters dying.  Does anyone use just shredded paper?  Any other suggestions?  I'm using pine at the moment.
I'm going to get some kitty milk to see if I can raise this pup myself.  Do you think I should leave it for a day or 2?
Any suggestions?
Thanks
~Heather
