One to two weeks.  Observe the animals for signs of when.  If they
are trying to groom each other (not bite off toes) and sleeping
up against the divider across from each other, then it's time.

Only if it seems that the animal sort of rolls over and over, either
like you stuck a skewer in their mouth and out the other end and
they just roll like they're being grilled....or if they try to sit up or
stand on their hind legs, they go over to one side and flop repeatedly.

That is a sign of head trauma or stroke.  In which case you better
gently ask around if anyone dropped a gerbil.  Also usually a head
cant to one side like you took their nose, pulled the head out and
twisted it a bit will show up.

If it's leaping for the top or some such, it's brattiness.
