I have a set of young gerbils that were removed from
their parents early to save them. Now, at 8 weeks of
age, they are clearly on their own, but have no idea
how to build a nest. I give them torn paper towels and
it just lays where=ever I scattered it. A toilet
tissue roll stays unchewed. These guys just huddle in
mass in a corner to sleep, although they all commune
with me (begging for cheerio's!) when I enter the
room. Very friendly and unafraid, but lousy nest
builders.
Is this a learned behavior? Since I use corn cobs,
they always look so uncomfortable. Any ideas?
Namaste
Cynthia
