None of my gerbils nip me or the kids or guests at
all, any time. The only nipper I have is my rescue
gerbil "Bite-Bite" who doesn't bite me anymore, but
still nips my young daughter. I had a family babysit
Blossom and pups about a year back and they said she
always nipped them, whereas she never nipped me before
or after her 2 week vacation.

I think part of it is breeding for a gerbil-gentle
line. But I am guessing part of it is handling. How
do you handle them? The only time basically that mine
are in my hands or held still is when I take them out
then I make my arms in a craddle against my body and
let them explore and run on me. Some like to sit in a
"cave" made with two hands cupped against my stomach
with an opening at the top to pop there heads out.
