new to this

I am new to having gerbils and I want to do the very best that I can to take care of both the parents and the babies. On July 2, one set of parents had 4 pups and when I woke up today my second set had 8. The first pair seem to be doing a wonderful job taking care of their babies but the second pair are stepping all over them and kicking them around, is this normal? If you have any advice for me on what to do or not to do, please let me know.   Nikki H.
