Hi All!

After talking to some breeders I am even more confused about how to
proceed in trying to get a companion for my lone one-year-old female.

Given Mouseys temperament, Im not sure an introduction with another
female would be successful. Having to take care of two lone gerbils
would cut into the time I give to Mousey, and Im looking to give her
more companionship, not less.

I think I can tell when Mouseys in heat, she raises her rear and acts
kind of randy, LOL! And Ive heard that it is easier to introduce a
female to a male.

Since I dont want to risk ending up with two lone gerbils, I thought
that if Mousey could get pregnant with a short visit with an adult male
that might be a possible solution.

I know that is not ideal since the father helps in raising the pups. But
I would give Mousey help, and would leave a daughter with her for
companionship. Getting good homes for the rest of the litter would be no
problem (I just dont want successive litters!).

Now for a few questions:

Is this feasible at all? What would be the best way to do this? In a
neutral cage, her cage, or the males? How long might it take? Is there
any risk that the male may not be accepted back into his clan?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I have learned a lot about
gerbils through this list. And all the love and concern that list
members show about these cute little creatures is really heartwarming.
THANK YOU!
