I have always found it helpful to "burrito wrap" a gerb in a towel with
only their head sticking out for these kinds of things. It's probably still
better to use 2 people if possible, but if you can properly restrain in a
towel, your could probably clean the eyes on your own too.

Hi,
It does indeed look like Thumbelina's eyes are gummed shut, there's all
kinds
of red goo around them, however, it's quite painful for me to get in there
with a warm damp cloth and clean them, cuz she's sunk her teeth right into
my
fingers on numerous occasions. Is there any other way for me to get in
there
to clean her eyes to where she won't be able to have a nice snack out of my
finger? Any help is appreciated. thanks
