Greeting folks!

I know jirds aren't wholly on topic here, but the same could happen
(Gods forbid) to a gerbil too, so it can be considered relevant...

About a week ago my youngest jird went ape-snot (not meaning to
be technical) and tried to kill his older brother. He badly ripped the
flanks and tail :(. I happened to be there when it happened and
isolated the injured jird.

The two remaining jirds seemed fine (the three males had been
together all their lives and their siblings are still together!) but in the
morning I found one dying :( with simlar injuries. We had to euth
him *heavy sigh* as he was paralyzed.

My problem is with the rescued jird. Though (with help of some
hepitane) his wounds are healing nicely, his tail has no movement
and no supplety. It is hard like it might be brittle. :(

Will he lose it? Should I take him to the vet and have it removed or
let nature take his course? It doesn't seem to bother him as much
as it does me :( but I still have him in a small small cage to monitor
his health. He is eating well and begging for treats ;) so I think he
will recover - there is just the issue of his tail...

Any tips?

With a sad sigh,
Deborah
