This is what our boys are in. What we did was take
two large metal washers, one for inside the tank and
one for outside, and a nut and bolt to hold them in
place. We used galvanized metal so the urine wouldn't
corrode things too badly. Make sure the washers are
large enough to cover the hole completely and the bolt
isn't too long (otherwise it will stick up in the tank
too far). Since it is generally covered with bedding
it doesn't bother the boys at all. We have had this
set up for two years now and it hasn't given us any
problems. We really like the fact that the top
framework is glued down and the boys can't push the
top off and escape. Of course, we try to keep
everything in the tank low enough they can't stand on
it and chew on the screen. Except the water bottle
which is up against the screen on the top so there
isn't any room for a gerbil. 8-)
