If Deb hadn't got in first I would have said the same thing. A swollen
cheek strongly signals abscess in any animal. And all abscesses are
potentially fatal if untreated. Treatment normally involves opening up
the wound to allow the infected material to drain, and then antibiotics
to limit reinfection.
