I saw my gerbils mating the third of this month and still no babies! I
know
its almost due date..its been at 22 days. She's not plump at all. I have
noticed her getting a litte bit bigger but not much. Also, they havent
mated
since the 3rd..also, I try to feel her belly and I cant tell. IS she
pregnant? And she is building a nest but but I dont know if its because
of
the air conditiner or not.
I don't worry until 28 days to 35 days.
Hamsters do 18-21 days gestation.
Gerbils are usually 24 to 28 days, and I usually see my gals
do 28 on first litter or litter after a break. If she's nursing and
is carrying, it's often 35 days to the litter after that...
And a lot of us have had a fairly young slender female gerbil
not really show at all or if we're being eagle eye, just START
to show any sort of weight gain (you think she has a week
yet) and she drops six to eight pups!
So don't fret it.
Also a gerbil can delay gestation after breeding, so it's a
guessing game as to when. Don't be impatient to see pups
or any sign of pregnancy, because it's far too early yet. :)
Elaborate nest building with lots and lots of energy lavished
on it is usually your 1-3 day warning.
Air conditioning? I hope you have their cage out of draft/blast
way...that is bad if they're in the path of the cold air. Move the
cage so they are out of any draft, or any of the air coming off
the air conditioner that would in cycle cool the tank and the air
in it.
