Though I can't keep all of them *sniffles* Trinity is now in the
process of giving birth to her second litter! So far 3 pups... got to
see the third one born just an hour ago. :)
Question: Do pups usually come out head or feet first?
The third one came out feet first. For awhile I was worried, as it
seemed to be taking quite a bit for him to be delivered, and after 5
long minutes, I almost intervened. But he did make it out... alive to
my surprise. Took awhile for his first breaths, and at first his body
was VERY dark while his head was almost white. I'm a little concerned
about possible brain damage, but I know there's nothing I can do but
just sit and wait and watch them grow.
About a week ago I took the four sisters, from the first litter, out
and placed them in a separate tank. I figured when Trinity's next
litter came along, 6 plus whatever the second litter becomes would be
too much in the 15-20 gal tank.
The two brothers are still with their parents - they are 5 and 1/2
weeks old. This shouldn't cause any problems yet, should it? I know I
will have to take them out within the next 1-2 weeks, just so there's
no inbreeding. I'm just hoping I'll find someone to take them, or
perhaps put them with their dad.
On a side note, I'm beginning to wonder if Einstein's nose is stress
related. He treats his pups well enough, but most of the time he
seems to want little to do with them, unless he's curled up to sleep
with them. His nose gets ALMOST better... and then it gets bad again.
I feel so sorry for him. I'm thinking about buying stock in
Neosporin! *L* I have stopped treatment for now.
1) I don't want the newborns exposed
2) I know prolonged treatment can be a bad thing.
Best to just give everything a break for a week or two, and then try
again. Am I wrong?
So that's all the news for now. I'll write again later to give the
final pup count. Just had to tell someone who could relate to the
experience. :)
