Some of you may remember, Lapis Lazuli, my slate "bobtailed" gerbil. ( http://www.rodentfancy.com/myomorpha/gerblapi.shtml )
Although she lived with her father for quite soem time, she never had any babies.  He sadly died and I placed her with her brother for company- and guess what, she had babies!  two little REWs.  Very surprising since i assumed she was steril after all this time.  Too early to be positive, but I think its a girl and a boy.  Both have normal tails, but if this was an inheritable mutation, maybe they carry it recessively.  i know both dominant and recessive forms exist in various species.
