we used it for temporary litter for a pair who developed allergies to aspen and couldn't handle the dust from any type of litter for a while afterwards
we think that's it's probably similar to cats/dogs eating grass, they can't digest it but it cleans out their systems

Subject: hay
hi, all. I used to raise guinea pigs and timothy hay was a staple that I always gave to them. I read in a book that all rodents benefit from hay to keep their "systems" in check. Do you feed your gerbils hay? How much? How often? and what particular kind?
Thanks in advance.
Kelly
