Hi!!! Sorry i can't help you with finding a good source for gerbils or cages, but i think i can help!! First i would advise you NOT to get a plastic cage with a door and bars, because gerbils will chew on them and it's hard to pet them and feed them. Most owners do well with a glass aquarium and mesh top,(available at most pet shops, cheap!). You asked about gender; it really doesn't matter but i like girls. Hope this helps!!
