What I do to drown out gerbil digging noises...

The same thing I have done almost all of my life to be
able to sleep peacefully through the night...

run a noisy fan.

The droning noise of the loud fan puts me to sleep
like riding in a car puts young children to sleep. I
have done this for many years, even in the coldest of
winter. In the winter though, I set the fan on the
floor and turn it so the air blows down the hall or
into my closet so it doesn't freeze me or the gerbies.

Without it I am one of the lightest sleepers I know,
easily awakened by soft noise. And even with it,
certain noises still wake me, but I sleep so much
better than if I did not have it.

Can't guarantee it would work for others though.
