Sad news

Hey list, My gerbie Tramp I just got 3 weeks ago died today while I was gone. I had got them out and played with them that morning and he seemed fine.I think that he was about a year old. He had three cage mates(about 8-9 weeks old) in with him. They have gotten along great and shown no signs of aggression what so ever. He was the dominant male in the tank. When I went to check on them the other three were piled on top of him in the corner where there nest is. Could they have smothered him??? All of the gerbils I have always sleep like this. Should i be worried about the others? This is my first gerbil death and I am pretty sad. I had him for only a short time but know i will miss him allot.   Any Ideas?              Jake :-(
