His body is probably recovering from the fall. You didn't say if this
just happened, or if this had been awhile. I'm assuming it just
happened.

I was in a car wreck once, and can sympathize... it's possible he
suffered a slight concussion or other stress to the body. Though I
had no bones broken and only one scratch on my finger and a few bad
bruises, I was out for 2 weeks or more, just from a concussion -
which never showed up until the day after they released me from the
hospital. So while he may have seemed ok immediately after the
accident, he might have suffered some shock.

Give him a week or so - perhaps less, since he is a gerbil - and I
think you'll see he's back to his normal self. In no way do I think
you're about to lose him. :)
