If the new one is about six weeks old they can usually
be introduced easily right into the cage. I say
usually, but there are exceptions so have a pair of
gloves ready and watch them close until they have
accepted each other. The gloves are in case you need
to break up a fight.

What I would do is put clean bedding in and the new
gerbil, while the former gerbil is in some other
container. Let the new gerbie run around in the cage a
while, like a few minutes, then put in the other one.
If things go well, still keep an eye on them until
they nest together. If the older gerbil attacks the
younger one remove him immediately and in a couple of
days try again using the split cage method for a few
days to a couple of weeks before introducing them.
