Sometimes you can direct introduce a young pup to a
mature male; it depends on how gentle/nurturing he is.
  But wear gloves in case it doesn't work, as an adult
gerbil can severely injure a pup in no time.  Watch
them closely until they are sleeping in the same nest,
then they are clanned.

An easy "split cage" is a smaller wire cage inside of
the larger tank.  You can get these at Petco or
Petsmart.  I put the cage upside down if it has a
plastic tray at the bottom, otherwise the outside
gerbil gnaws that up very quickly.
