Hi Rachel, Actually I just bought a new pair of gerbil girls (siamese + burmese, 3 months old) who I have to introduce to each other with split cage method. I'm simply using a wire rack that has square holes that are about 0.25 inches x 0.25 inches. I cut the rack to fit the tank so that I left some extra rack at both sides and the bottom and folded those to that the extra bits are along the sides and the floor of the tank. Then I put two short pieces of wire that I looped through a couple of the holes in the upper end of the wire rack and simply taped those from three places to the outside of the tank. Voil�! The two gerbies are just fine there because they can smell each other through the holes but not hurt each other even if they wanted to. My pair has been a very calm case though.
