it could be a cold
a lot of rodents have red mucous
that mucous can look a lot like blood
try some ornycycline or small animal antibiotics and watch him for sneezing
and for "excessive" face rubbing/cleaning
if he is puffy or scruffy looking, he probably has a cold
if he is just swollen near that eye and he cleans it cautiously like it
hurts, he could have been injured
our lighter colored gerbies are much more prone to colds and respiratory
infections than our darker colored gerbies, so we're guessing it's more
likely the beginning of a cold (consider it eye-slime from a cold like a dog
or cat gets)
good luck and let us know how he recovers
