Hi,

I'm just about to give up!

After several months of fighting the mites, and thinking
they are gone, only to have them pop up again a few weeks
down the road.

I've sprayed and cleaned and vacuumed and washed laundry
like a maniac, getting all the cages every 6 days, but I'm
wearing out (and the gerbils are starting to hate this spray
stuff every few days).

The mites are winning.
There are always a couple left somewhere, to multiply again
after a few weeks.

Is there *anything* else I can do?

My vet is no help, and says this kind of mite doesn't
normally live on gerbils and I shouldn't worry.
She claims the kinds of mites that infest gerbils are
invisible, while these are small, but definitely visible.

And they sure *do* infest our gerbils, if we don't
intervene.

I've read on a website that you can feed rats ivermectin
(the stuff you can buy for horses, the amount the size of a
rice grain for rats) to get rid of the mites.

Has anyone ever heard of this and can give an opinion if
this would be safe for gerbils?
