Spotting in gerbils is dominant and all spotted gerbils have one gene for spotting. Each gerbil passes on this gene to half of the pups. This means there will be a quarter of pups who get the spotting gene from both parents. Gerbils with two copies of this gene do not develop in the womb and are never born. So if you breed two spotted gerbils one quarter of the pups are reabsorbed in the womb. This is harmless. -- Julian [EMAIL PROTECTED] National Gerbil Society http://www.gerbils.co.uk/
