I am humbled by the encouraging messages in this thread.

I understand the feeling of urgency.

I suggest therefore that unless there are any voices to the contrary we
move at the beginning of February as has been suggested. That gives
people another week to consider things. If no one speaks up by the
middle of next week we can start the move, and make things final next
Friday.

I don't want to pre-judge anything, but I have made Michelle Haines and
Karin van Veen moderators on the Topica list. I have done this because
they are sensible people who like me were members of the informal mail
sharing system that became the GML in 1995.

I realise neither are very active, but they have both subscribed and I
am sure they can be relied upon to act in an emergency if I am not
available, and both their mail addresses are well known.

That would give us one Brit, one American, and one non-British European.
I can only give privileges to people who have subscribed to Topica and
have registered to give themselves a password (sorry Ehrenfried, but
that counts you out! ;-)).

I would like to consider at least one more moderator, for example,
Janet, or some other AGS representative but Janet is not subscribed at
Topica yet (unless she is using a mailing address I do not recognise).

I expect moderating duties to be extremely light. Past experience has
been that the list has about one potential flame war a year and maybe a
troll every eighteen months.
