I recently was persuaded by my local pet store to buy one of the space themed habitrail wire/plastic cages for my 2 gerbils. I was pretty disappointed in the lack of space it offered as I could only stick one arm into the cage-I put a cup in the cage and lift em out in the cup when I want to take em out. Fortunately it has prooved to be durable as they haven't gnawed the plastic pieces to bits.
One of the problems I have with this cage is that even with a 1" plastic shield over the bars at the bottom of the cage, my gerbils are still able to kick the litter out. I put an empty litter pan under the cage to catch the kicked litter, but they are still able to kick it beyond this litter pan. I've thought about putting 2 layers of clear packaging tape (the adhesive part of the tape pieces would face each other) on the outside of the bars. I'm hoping they won't chew this up, though. Does anyone have an idea of how to keep the gerbil debris off the rug? Marty Visit my site: http://www.geocities.com/kingskid72
