I bought a small cage a while ago that has capability for attachments and tubes. I've been wanting to give my gerbils more room and saw a plastic small animal cage at the pet store the other day with a punch out opening on the top the exact size of a plastic tube. I bought it, along with some Habitrail tubes and connected my Habitrail space station to this roomier plastic cage by using plastic tubes.
The problem is that, for the first time, my gerbils are able to gnaw on the tube end now that sticks out inside the new cage. Is there any way of preventing this gnawing with a tube (compatible with Habitrail cages) or tube end that's more durable (maybe a metal collar from a hardware store)?
