Hello, I'm new to the list so I thought I would send a quick message. I work at a petstore and I've read every book we have about Gerbils. I've read everything the NGS and AGS has on their sites, so I can say I am pretty well informed about Gerbils. Anyway, I just bought two male Gerbils a few days ago. They are around 7-10 weeks old (we get ours from a breeder). Even though they are around the same age, they are very different. The slightly bigger one is very active...eats normally, plays around, changes his bedding, digs and plays with his toys. But the other one, a tiny bit smaller does nothing much more than sleep all the time. He will get up every now and then and play with the other one, but the majority of the time he just sleeps. They are brothers so I wouldn't think they would be much different. My question is if this is normal behavior. There are no visible signs whatsoever of illness. Both their coats are sleek and laid back, no wet-tail or red nose, no rasping breathing sounds, nothing. The bigger one, I named Sam, will take sunflower seeds from my hands, sit on my palm and even let me pet him already. The other one, I named Pip (the sleepy one) won't even take sunflower seed from my hand and scurries away when I try to give him a treat. Could this just be his personality or could there be something wrong? There aren't any other signs that anything is wrong with him but I would think he would be more active. Anyway, thanks alot. I hope to hear from other Gerbil people soon.
